A permanent, safe home
We are working towards a permanent home where children and young people who have nowhere safe to go can live, heal and regain their happiness and confidence.
Shianda, Mumias East, Kakamega County
We give vulnerable children and teenage girls in rural Kakamega what every child is owed: love, a safe home, a place in school, and the knowledge to protect their health.
In the villages around Shianda, too many children are raising themselves.
Poverty and polygamy leave many families stretched past breaking point. Older children end up heading households, working instead of learning, and growing up without anyone to guide them.
Teenage girls carry the heaviest share. A girl who falls pregnant is often treated as a burden by her family and her community, at exactly the moment she most needs care. Illiteracy, infant and maternal deaths, HIV and other STIs, and drug use among young people all follow from the same neglect.
Support The Dream is a community-based organisation formed by people from this area to change that, one child and one family at a time.
To transform lives and break the cycle of poverty by delivering inclusive, efficient, and high-quality socio-economic services that empower communities and create lasting impact.
To empower marginalised communities, especially vulnerable children and youth, by providing care, support and opportunities that restore confidence, dignity and self-reliance through capacity building, education and life-skills training.
Four commitments guide everything we spend time and money on.
We are working towards a permanent home where children and young people who have nowhere safe to go can live, heal and regain their happiness and confidence.
Love has to be backed by skill. We train caregivers, guardians and community volunteers so every child in our care gets proper attention, protection and support.
School fees, uniforms and learning materials keep children in class. Life-skills and income training help teenage mothers and older youth stand on their own.
We talk openly with children, parents and communities about sexual and reproductive health, their rights, and preventing HIV, hepatitis and other diseases.
There is a place for anyone who wants to help, whether you live in Shianda or on the other side of the world.
Every shilling goes to the children. Our constitution requires that money raised is used only for the group's work, held in the organisation's own bank account, and every cheque signed by two officials.

Teachers, nurses, counsellors, social workers and anyone who can mentor a child: your time is as valuable as money.
